E-Reads has been publishing print and electronic books since 1999. We've produced over 700 titles over the years and this website is our online catalog and blog (this website is not a retail site or a reseller for other publishers). Many of our books are exclusive editions of popular titles that have been out of print for many years. At E-Reads, you'll find best-selling romance titles by authors like Janet Dailey to award-winning science fiction by Fritz Leiber and Dave Duncan. We have also been privileged to bring out new books from successful writers. You can use our website to browse our current list of books, find information on our authors, and find retailers for our paperback editions. > Back to top

What is an ebook?
An ebook is a book that has been converted into a digital text document file that you can read on a computer screen or a handheld device, using ebook software. Many retail ebooks have Digital Rights Management (DRM) that protect the author's copyright and prevent piracy. They are less expensive than traditional books and are convenient to read wherever you go with your reading device traveling by plane or subway or at your computer at home or work. > Back to top

What do I need to read an ebook? Where can I get free ebook software?
We recommend Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Reader, MobiPocket, Sony Reader, and eReader as software you can use to read ebooks. They can be downloaded for free from the above links. These free programs allow you to keep a library of digital texts and read them on the widest variety of computers and devices using Windows, Mac OS, Palm, or Linux. Be sure you download an ebook in a format which can be used with the software you have installed, such as Palm format for Palm Reader. To evaluate the differences between formats, and encrypted / unencrypted versions, click here to see Fictionwise's FAQ on the matter. > Back to top

What ebook formats does E-Reads publish and how do I read them?
E-Reads publishes ebooks in eReader, Microsoft Lit, MobiPocket, Sony Reader, and Adobe Acrobat formats. Each of these formats can be read on a computer or device using their respective free software programs. Make sure to install a reader program on your computer or device before you purchase an ebook. For example, Adobe's Digital Editions software is a great reader for non-DRM'd PDF and PDF-X files. When you are ready to buy an ebook, make your selection from an online retailer and purchase the file in the specific format that matches the software you have installed (ex. eReader for Palm PDA devices). You will be given instructions on how to download the ebook file. Once it has been downloaded and saved on your computer, you can use your reader software to open the ebook file. You will be able to keep bookmarks, scroll through pages at your own pace, and never worry about dog-eared corners or the pages falling out. > Back to top

I don't see the file format I need are there other formats available?
We make our books available to Fictionwise.com, a retailer which produces its own MultiFormat versions of our text in formats for iSilo, Gemstar, Hiebook, Franklin ebookman, Sony Reader, and Mobipocket, among others. Although the MultiFormat does not have encrypted protection, some readers find it useful for keeping their ebook library on more than one device. Elsewhere, such as at Amazon.com, you can find encrypted secure versions of our ebooks, and also at libraries across (such as the Cleveland Public Library) the United States for ebook lending.
We also publish traditional paperbacks. E-Reads has teamed with LightningSource to make almost all our books available in print editions in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K., and they can be ordered from online retailers such as Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble, as well as from any traditional bookstore. Many of our books are available as Print-On-Demand and can be delivered right to your door, hot off the press. > Back to top

What is a POD (Print-On-Demand) book?
E-Reads strives to make our books available to everyone and as affordable as possible. A Print-On-Demand book is a trade paperback book printed just for your individual order by a high-speed process and then shipped to you in about 3 day's time. By keeping our books as POD, we can guarantee that books are always available in print for anyone who needs 1 copy or 10,000 copies. This is a premium service and consequently costs more than the typical mass-market paperback because of the manufacturing process. A POD book has a typical glossy paperback cover, perfect-bound binding, and pages printed on 50lb paper stock. It's the real thing. > Back to top

Where can I buy an ebook reading device?
Presently, Sony manufactures a wonderful reading device called the Sony Reader. The Palm Trio is a successful hybrid cellphone and PDA that is very useful for ebooks. Amazon will soon release their own device in 2007/2008, and there is ebook software available for Pocket PCs and smartphones, not to mention the iPod Touch. You can still choose to purchase an older device used exclusively for ebooks. However, the Gemstar/Rocket/Nuvomedia readers are no longer being manufactured. At this time, you can still find the hiebook, Franklin ebookman, and the EasyRead Personal Digital Reader, but they're rare.
The current trend shows that more people are reading their ebooks with cell phones, portable media players, Tablet PCs, which are more featured than ever before. We recommend you check out:

I am an author and I want to be part of the E-Reads program. What is your submission policy?
E-Reads is interested in previously published books for which the author has retained the rights to digital publication and, when possible, the print rights. We have the ability to bring back books which have been out of print and regenerate sales and interest. Unfortunately, we do not accept submissions from authors who have not been previously published. If you have a book or series which you would like E-Reads to revive or publish for the first time, please send a query outlining your professional experience and the rights status of your book (such as whether you or your agent has a letter of reversion).
